This week, in DT we made popcorn. To make this, we used sunflower oil because it doesn’t have a strong taste. We grated lemons and limes to use the zest to make a seasoning to add to the popcorn. When we added the kernels to the oil, we could hear the corn popping. We also tried the popcorn with sugar and salt. In Science, a couple of weeks ago, we started an investigation into how light effects growth. We’ve noticed that they had grown in all the transparent, translucent and opaque test tubes. Surprisingly, the opaque test tubes show the best growth. We think this is because they have more space to grow as the test tube is slightly bigger. We also started an investigation to test the xylem of a plant. This is the part of the plant that transports water and nutrients from the roots to the rest of the plant. First, we tried it with celery, but we didn’t notice anything happening. So now, we’ve tried white roses. Over the next few days, we shall see if they change colour. In Maths, we’ve started to recap multiplying. In Geography, we have been learning about types of volcanoes around the world. We learned some volcanoes are extinct, active and dormant. We used atlases to see where the locations of some volcanoes were. We learned that Ben Nevis in Scotland is an extinct volcano.
