This week, in Science, we were asking. “What do plants need to survive?” Examples of what they need are: light, oxygen and water. We started an investigation to test how light effects the growth of watercress. We planted the seeds in test tubes with cotton wool with opaque, transparent or translucent material. Over the following week, we will observe which group grows the best. We have predicted it will be the transparent test tubes because they allow the most light needed for the plant’s nutrients. In Geography, we revisited learning about how our Earth is formed from our rocks unit in Autumn term. We remembered that there are four parts of the Earth: crust, mantle, inner core and outer core. New learning we discovered was that volcanoes erupt because of tectonic plates moving beneath us. In PE, with Mrs Overton, we played the game ‘Simon Says’ and started our gymnastic unit. In Computing, we asked, “What is a database?” We made our own branching database using whiteboard pens on our tables, yes or no questions and dinosaur pictures. We had to categorise the pictures based on the questions.
Our Flashback 4 questions this week were:
1.Which layer of the Earth is made from semi-molten rock?
2.Some rocks are permeable. What does this mean?
3.What is interfacing in textiles?
4.What are fossils?
Next week, we will be asking, “How are volcanoes formed?” and investigating what plants need to survive and be healthy.
Our spelling rule next week is “s‘’ sounding words: special, suppose, politics, access, nonetheless, circle, decide, exercise, medicine, crescent, sentence
Our PE days are Tuesday (indoor) and Friday (outdoor)
