This week, in Jigsaw, we were asking, ‘What are drugs?’ and ‘What is safe and unsafe?’ We completed our Key Piece where we had to explain how our choices can affect our mental and physical health. In DT, we have completed another Key Piece. We evaluated how we made our fruity yogurt, popcorn and chips. We discussed what we liked and didn’t like about our recipes. In PE, we built a sequence of rolls, jumps and balances in groups and performed these to our classmates. In Maths, we did a ‘flashback’ lesson on time that we did in Year 2. We recapped how to tell time up to 5-minute intervals. We learned how we must start counting from the 12 on a clock and count in intervals of 5. Depending which side our minute hand is, tells us if it is past the hour or to the hour. In Forest School, we went outside in groups of twos, or threes with a drum. We placed a hula-hoop on the ground, banged on the drum in the middle to make the worms under soil think they are raindrops and encourage them to come to the surface. We gathered data on how many worms we found and the different types. We learned the difference between a male and female worm is female worms will have a ring around their body, whereas the males don’t. In Writing, we’ve been learning grammar skills to write a first-person narrative based on the events of Pompeii. We’ve been writing sentences, with adjectives and adverbs, that tell use when, where, or how something happens.
Our Flashback 4 questions this week were:
1)Where are tectonic plates?
2)Which part of the flower transports water and nutrients from the roots?
3)Which object is translucent?
4)During the Pentecost, Jesus was visited by which part of the Trinity?
5)Which countries are part of the British Isles?
Next week, we completing some of our key pieces from our learning this half term and learning how to say what we can and can’t do in French.
Our spelling rule next week is “sh‘’ sounding words: establish, machine, extension, pressure, possession, mention, action, tradition, option, nation, electrician, politician
